Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、グラフ理論で重要な役割を果たす隣接行列と分子の強束縛近似におけるハミルトニアン行列との類似性を利用する。隣接行列のn乗の(i, j)成分はグラフ上で頂点iからスタートし、頂点jに至る長さnの経路の個数に等しい。(i, i)成分であればグラフ上で頂点iからスタートし、頂点iに戻ってくる長さnの経路(閉路)の個数に等しい。これはn次のモーメントと呼ばれる。このようなグラフ理論上の知見を、分子デバイスや金属クラスターのハミルトニアン行列に適用する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究の目的は化学グラフ理論の知見をクラスター触媒分野に適用することで高機能触媒開発のための物質の解析と探索を行い、物質・材料科学のための情報科学基盤の整備に貢献することである。
本年度は、触媒反応上有用な中間体を選択的に安定化し、触媒の選択率の向上に寄与する金属クラスター構造を群知能の一種である粒子群最適化法と第一原理計算を用いた手法で探索した。得られた触媒候補に対して、グラフ理論的および電子構造論的な解析を行った。それに基づきナノクラスター触媒の合理的な設計への指針を得た。
具体的には、メタンの脱水素化反応で現れる反応中間体(CH3, CH2, CH, C)が金属ナノクラスターに吸着した構造を群知能と第一原理計算を組み合わせた手法により最適化し、その構造からクラスターのトポロジーおよび電子状態に関する指標を取得した。各種中間体の吸着エネルギーとクラスターの電子及び幾何構造との相関を解析した。有用な化成品へとつながる重要な中間体(CH3, CH2)を優先的に安定化するためにクラスターが満たすべき条件を明らかにした。
NiナノクラスターはCを安定種として優先的に吸着し、FeとCoナノクラスターはCHとCH3の両方を、CuナノクラスターはCH3を、ZnナノクラスターはどのC1フラグメントも化学吸着しないことがわかった。
CuナノクラスターはCやCHを安定種として吸着せず、CH3を安定に吸着するため、メタンの直接変換触媒として機能することが期待される。
