Outline of Research at the Start

アインシュタインが予言した重力波は、はじめて2015年に観測されました。これまでブラックホールの衝突合体や、中性子星の連星合体からの重力波が観測されていますが、近接連星と呼ばれる連星系からも微弱ながら重力波で放出されていることが知られています。天の川銀河の星々のスペクトルの視線速度の変化から近接連星候補の国勢調査を行い、連星系からの背景重力波の大きさを本研究では推定します。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、天の川銀河系内で重力波源となりうる白色矮星を含む近接連星を統計的に探し出すことである。近接連星は、微弱ながら重力波を放出することが知られており、将来のスペースからの重力波観測を立案する上でも、どれくらいの数の近接連星が天の川銀河に存在するかを知ることは重要である。また、白色矮星連星は、暗黒エネルギーの精密測定に使われているIa型超新星の母天体と考えられているが、白色矮星同士の連星なのか、白色矮星と主系列星の連星なのか、数十年に渡って議論され、決着がついていない。天の川銀河内で、母天体候補を探し出し統計的分布の知見を得ることが肝要である。
本研究では、まず候補天体リスト作成し、分光による追観測の遂行、データを解析し、近接連星の確認をしていく。これまで蓄積されたスローンデジタルスカイサーベイ(SDSS)から候補天体絞り出し、欧州の位置天文衛星GAIAのDR3のデータと照合し、連星の軌道半径の大きいもの(1000天文単位)から、小さい方向への分布を調査し、近接連星の分布について、推定した。また、Pan-Starrs、DECamの最新のデータとも組み合わせ、候補天体リストを作成した。確度の高い天体については、分光観測で確かめる予定であったが、新型コロナ感染症の影響により、望遠鏡が稼働していなかった時期があり、また天候にも恵まれず、観測計画は遅れているが、いくつかの有力天体については分光観測することができた。今期は16晩、来期は10晩観測時間を獲得し、観測を継続し、解析の上結果を論文化し、データを公開して行く予定である。
