Outline of Research at the Start

HiZ-GUNDAMは、GRBの発生を検知するX線光学系と、それを自律的に追観測する赤外線望遠鏡とを併せ持つ事で、検出したGRBのほぼ全てを追観測することが可能となる。この赤外線望遠鏡は0.5-2.5umの4バンド同時撮像によりGRB残光の赤方偏移を測定しアラート情報に含める事で、GRB発生から30分以内に地上大型望遠鏡による高赤方偏移GRBの効率的な追観測を促す。これにより、重力波対応天体の観測に加えて、宇宙再電離、重元素合成、大質量ブラックホール生成などにも併せて迫る。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究計画では、中性子星連星の合体をshort GRBおよびキロノヴァとして観測することを目的の一つとして、極限時空探査衛星計画HiZ-GUNDAMを世界に先駆け2030年頃に実現することを目指している。HiZ-GUNDAM衛星の実現には、検出したGRBを即座に追観測する為の衛星搭載の近赤外線宇宙望遠鏡が不可欠である。そこで、我々が今までに開発してきたロケット観測計画CIBER-2で培った宇宙望遠鏡開発の実績を活かし、HiZ-GUNDAM搭載望遠鏡のBread Board Model (BBM)を製作することを通して、技術的課題を克服し、その設計を実証的に確定させていく。
HiZ-GUNDAM計画は、2021年末にJAXA宇宙科学研究所のプリプロジェクト移行審査に合格し、現在は複数の衛星搭載機器開発メーカーを交えて概念検討を進めている。その検討において (1) 可視光から近赤外線の広い波長域における多波長同時観測を実現する冷却宇宙望遠鏡の光学設計、 (2) 人工衛星に搭載し軌道上で要求温度 (望遠鏡筐体: 200 K、検出器: 120 K)にまで冷却する熱構造の検討・設計、 (3) ケスタープリズムを用いた新たな波長分割方式の検討とそれによるコスト削減、などを検討しており、このような活動を通して、人工衛星に搭載する赤外線宇宙望遠鏡の実現性を高めると同時に、今後のより詳細な検討において取り組むべき技術課題を抽出することができた。
なお、本研究計画の代表者は2022年度の後期に育児休業を取得したため、2022年度の活動は前半の半年間のみであった。

Reason

HiZ-GUNDAM計画は2021年度末にJAXAのプリプロジェクト移行審査に合格し、2022年度末のダウンセレクションを経て、JAXAの正式なプロジェクトとして採択されるべく活動を進めている。この目的を実現するため、メーカを交えて概念検討も順調に進んでおり、今後検討すべきの技術的課題などを抽出し、衛星搭載の宇宙望遠鏡の実現性を高めることができている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

HiZ-GUNDAM計画のJAXAプロジェクト化に向け、本研究が担う搭載装置である赤外線宇宙望遠鏡の開発に関する検討をメーカを交えて継続し、プロジェクト化に必要な技術的課題の克服に努めていく。なお、今年度後期に実施予定だった研究内容は、来年度に実施予定である。
