Outline of Research at the Start

アンモニアは化学肥料などの原料となる極めて重要な化学物質であると同時に、水素キャリアやエネルギーキャリアとしても注目されている。 これまでに、申請者らは局在表面プラズモン共鳴(LSPR)を巧みに利用し、全可視光を用いて多電子反応である水の酸化と窒素の還元を可能にした。
本研究では、LSPRの光放射に起因するエネルギー散逸を抑制し、高効率に電子-正孔対を生成する革新的モード強結合プラズモン光カソードの構築し、水を電子源・プロトン源とし、全可視光を利用して高効率・高選択的に空中窒素の固定化を実現するための学理と技術を構築することを目指す。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、従来の単層の金属ナノ粒子からなるプラズモン電極では困難であった、1)可視光領域での高効率な光吸収、2)表面還元反応効率の増大を達成可能な光カソードの作製、ならびに可視光応答型アンモニア合成システムの構築を目標に研究を行った。押切は、そのための方法論として、金属ナノ粒子が示すプラズモンと、金属反射膜と半導体膜からなる薄膜共振器を組み合わせた「強結合」を提案した。
前年度までに上記強結合の概念を適用したプラズモンアノードを作製し、これを用いた光アンモニア合成の高効率化に成功しており、2021年度はこれを展開した強結合型光カソードの設計・作製・実証を行った。
はじめに、電磁界シミュレーションによって強結合型カソードの示す近接場モードや遠方場スペクトルを求め、可視光に高い吸収を示す構造設計を行った。上記計算結果を基に、イットリウム安定化ジルコニア基板上に白金薄膜をスパッタ成膜し、その上にパルスレーザー堆積装置を用いてp型半導体である酸化ニッケル層を245 nm成膜した。さらに、その上に金ナノ粒子を担持した。作製した強結合カソードは可視光の広範囲で高い吸収を示し、650 nm付近では反射光はほぼ0となった。
こうして作製した強結合カソードを用い、水溶液中で還元反応を行ったところ、犠牲試薬非存在下にもかかわらず、可視光の広範囲で還元反応に基づく光電流が観測され、その入射光電流変換効率の最大値は0.2%程度であった。これは既報の非強結合下での同様の計測結果と比較して3桁程度の増大値に相当する。
以上から、強結合光カソードが従来のプラズモン電極と比較して極めて高い光吸収能、光還元能を有することを実証した。
