Outline of Research at the Start

スピンが渦状に配列したスキルミオンというトポロジカルな磁気構造は、固体中ではその渦が竜巻のように伸びた糸状の構造体(スキルミオンストリング)として存在する。これまで、このスキルミオンストリングは多数集まり周期的な集合体、すなわち結晶状態を形成することが知られてきたが、温度や磁場といった外部因子を変化させることによって融解し、液晶状態を実現できる。本研究では、薄膜作製技術を駆使することによってこのスキルミオンストリング液晶状態を制御し、そのゆらぎに由来した電子散乱現象を観測・解明する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

糸状トポロジカルスピン構造であるスキルミオンストリングの配向秩序の変化によって生じる電子散乱現象を、磁場や歪みといった外場や微細化に伴う表面効果によって制御することが本研究の全体目的である。 本年度は主にスキルミオンストリングの液晶状態が発現する候補物質について単結晶合成や2次非線形伝導測定を行い、スピンカイラリティに起因した非相反散乱現象の開拓を目指して研究を進めた。 その結果、当初の研究目標を達成することができた。キラル磁性体MnGeについて4-5 GPaの超高圧下におけるフラックス法による合成を行い、世界で初めて単結晶合成に成功することができた。これにより、磁場、歪み、微細化などの外部制御因子を自在に変化させた時に、MnGeにおけるスキルミオンストリングの配向秩序がどのように応答するかを系統的に調べることができた。集束イオンビーム法を用いて試料をマイクロメーターサイズにまで微細化することで、高電流密度下におけるスキルミオンストリング励起状態とそれに由来した非線形伝導特性を観測できた。特にベクトルスピンカイラリティの揺らぎによる非相反スピン散乱効果が巨大な磁気カイラル効果をもたらし、磁場で制御可能なダイオード効果を生み出すことに成功した。これらの成果は論文として出版することができた[Phys. Rev. B 103, L220410 (2021)]。さらにこの結果を発展させ、らせん磁気構造における非線形伝導特性やトポロジカル磁気欠陥の非線形ダイナミクスの観測にも成功している。
