Outline of Research at the Start

1980年代に合金系で発見された準結晶は、2010代になって超伝導や反強磁性や量子臨界現象が次々と発見され、その機能性に注目が集まっている。さらに材料としての発展性を担保するためには酸化物系の準結晶(焼結体や単結晶などのバルク体)の開拓が必須と思われるが、その合成は困難を極めている。いまだに成功例がない。継続的な実験努力が求められている。本課題では、高圧合成法を主に活用して酸化物系準結晶のバルク体の合成に挑戦する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

亜酸化物は、電気陰性度が小さな金属元素同士が多数結合した金属クラスターと、そのクラスター間に挿入された酸素を特徴とする特異な酸化物として研究されてきた経緯がある。かつてはCs11O3やRb9O2のように大気中で不安定な亜酸化物が多かったが、近年では大気中でも安定なTiを含む3元系亜酸化物Ti7Ga2O6, Ti3GaO, Ti5Ga3Oが合成され (H. Yamane, S. Amano, Inorg. Chem. 57, 9941, 2018)、さらには新規超伝導体Nb5Ir3O (Tc=10.5 K)とTi4M2O (M = Co, Rh, Ir) (Tc=2.3~5.4 K)が合成されるなど新物質開発が進展している (K.Y. Ma, et al. Chem. Mater. 23, 8722, 2021)。
我々は、亜酸化物のクラスター構造的な特徴に着目して物質探索を進め、正20面体的な特徴を備える、かつ大気中でも安定な新規亜酸化物の創製を目指して、特にTi系亜酸化物の周辺物質・関連物質の合成、および新物質の探索を進めた。実験手段として、新物質合成に有効な高圧合成法を用いた。昨年度に続き、Ti-Ga-O系の亜酸化物の高圧環境下での合成実験を進め、さらに単一ステップから複数ステップの熱処理へと実験条件を最適化し、さらにまたGeや他の金属元素との固溶体の合成を進めた。これまでのところ明確な特徴を備えた新物質や、重要な周辺物質・関連物質の合成には至らなかったが、第2期の公募研究課題として探索を継続する。
なお探索の過程で、酸化物準結晶と直接関係ないが、Ba-Ti-O系の新規高圧相を合成したため、その特異な構造的特徴と併せて学術論文として公表する準備を進めた。
