Outline of Research at the Start

高分子は柔軟さや自己修復性が付与可能なため、将来的には折り曲げ可能な固体電池の開発が期待されている。この実現には、高分子電解質に対する電極および活物質の界面設計が欠かせない。
本提案では、これまでの研究代表者の高分子特有の主鎖や官能基の分子配向等の構造変化によるプロトン伝導性の相関研究の実績を活かし(Langmuir, 33, 12547 (2017), 高分子論文集, 75, 576 (2018), Sci. Tech. Adv. Mater., 21, 79 (2020))、未解明な電極や活物質界面におけるプロトン伝導性高分子のプロトン輸送を分子配向の観点から明らかにすることを目的とする。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

イオン伝導性高分子薄膜の炭素電極に沿った面内イオン伝導度は、インピーダンス法で直接観測できないことが先行研究で指摘されていた。先行研究と同条件で櫛形電極をリソグラフィ技術で作製しプロトン伝導度を測定し、プロトン伝導度は櫛形電極の間に存在する石英基板上のNafion薄膜のプロトン伝導度であり、炭素電極パッド上のNafion薄膜のプロトン伝導度は観測できていないことを明らかにした。この結果から、結論が相反する二報の先行研究の内容を整理した。種々の追加検討を行った結果、炭素電極パッドとNafion薄膜界面の電気二重層キャパシタンスを変化させることで、炭素電極パッド上のNafion薄膜のプロトン伝導度に帰属可能なインピーダンス成分を観測できることが見いだされた。この知見をもとに、炭素電極上のイオン伝導性高分子薄膜の面内イオン伝導度を決定する手法を確立し、目的を達成した。
確立した手法を炭素電極上のNafion薄膜に用いると、298K、相対湿度96%でのプロトン伝導度は、20-30 mS cm-1と比較的高く、過去に研究代表者らが報告した石英上のNafion薄膜と比較して約2倍、島状白金上のNafion薄膜と同等のプロトン伝導度を有することも明らかにした。
また、炭素電極界面のイオン伝導性高分子薄膜における分子配向の同定法を確立することもできた。ベンチマーク材料であるNafion薄膜は炭素電極界面でシリコン基板上と同様の分子配向を有していた。乾燥状態のNafionの主鎖は面内方向に配向し、側鎖末端のスルホン酸基同士はダイマーもしくはオリゴマー化していると考えられた。
共同研究体制は、前年度得られた結果をもとに、界面イオン輸送で著名なカルガリー大のKaran教授の研究グループとの共同研究を継続した。
