Outline of Research at the Start

炭素質隕石にはアミノ酸や糖類など,種々の有機化合物が存在することがよく知られている。しかし,それらを生成する“材料”に関する情報が乏しい。本研究では,様々な隕石中有機化合物の前駆体として期待されるヘキサメチレンテトラミン(HMT)に焦点を当て,実験室内で宇宙環境を模擬したHMT生成・変化実験,および地球外物質分析によるHMT存在量の多様性の検証をおこなう。得られる結果を総合的に解析し,太陽系での有機分子生成のスタート物質に制約条件を与えるとともに,HMTを中心とした,宇宙における統一的な分子進化モデルの構築を試みる。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

水,一酸化炭素,アンモニア,メタノールなどからなる混合氷に真空紫外光を照射すると,ヘキサメチレンテトラミン(HMT)を含む複雑有機物が生成することが知られていた。本研究では,炭素源をメタノールと二酸化炭素のみに限定して同様の実験をおこない,HMT生成量の違いを見積もった。HMTはメタノールを炭素源としたときに卓越して生成し,二酸化炭素を炭素源としたときにはその生成が著しく抑制された。これは,HMTの前駆体の一つと考えられるホルムアルデヒド生成が,メタノールを炭素源としたときのほうが有利だったためと考えられる。
小惑星探査機「はやぶさ2」によって回収された炭素質小惑星リュウグウ試料からHMT検出を試みた。リュウグウ試料から抽出した成分を液体クロマトグラフ―オービトラップ型超高分解能質量分析計で分析した。しかし残念ながら,メタノールやジクロロメタン抽出物,および熱水抽出物中にHMTは検出されなかった。その可能性としては,リュウグウ上での熱水プロセスによって分解した,あるいは実験操作中に分解してしまった可能性が示唆された。前者の場合,HMTは100℃以上の熱水活動で容易に分解するため,小惑星リュウグウはある程度の熱水プロセスを経験したといえる。これは,無機成分分析結果等と調和的であった。
HMT標準試薬水溶液をケイ酸塩微粒子とともに140℃で加熱して,分解生成物を検証した。分解生成物から,ニコチン酸(ナイアシン)が検出された。リュウグウ試料からもニコチン酸が検出されており,小惑星リュウグウ上での熱水反応によってHMTが分解し,ニコチン酸を生成したという反応経路が提唱された。
