Outline of Research at the Start

太陽系を含む惑星系は,分子雲から原始惑星系円盤を経て進化し,それぞれの段階で多様な分子が生成する.原始惑星系円盤では,ケイ酸塩鉱物表面に星間分子(H2やCOなど)が化学吸着し,フィッシャー・トロプシュ型の触媒反応をおこすことで炭化水素分子が生成すると考えられている.しかしその反応素過程については,清浄な鉱物表面を準備し,H2とCOの吸着状態(分子状吸着か解離吸着か)を調べる困難さから,未解決問題となっている.本研究では,清浄な単結晶ケイ酸塩鉱物表面で実験するために試料を30 Kから1000 Kまで温調可能な装置を新たに開発し,H2とCOの吸着状態と化学吸着確率を明らかにする.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究課題は,原始惑星系円盤に存在する星間塵の表面でフィッシャー・トロプシュ型の触媒反応によって有機分子が生成するかどうかを調べるために,「光脱離+共鳴多光子イオン化法」を用いた実験装置の開発を行うものである.本年度は装置の設計・組み上げを行い「光脱離+共鳴多光子イオン化法」による実験を行う予定であったが,新型コロナウイルス感染症の影響で物品の納入が遅くなってしまった.そこで限られた時間のなかで研究成果を最大化するために「光脱離+レーザー誘起蛍光法」を用いた有機分子(飽和脂肪酸)の光反応に関する実験を行ったところ大きな進展があったので本年度はそちらに注力した.
実験にはノナン酸[CH3(CH2)7COOH]の液体試料を用いた.ノナン酸は地球の海洋やエアロゾルの界面に存在する飽和脂肪酸である.ノナン酸を含む飽和脂肪酸は,210 nmあたりにn-π*遷移による光吸収ピークが存在する.そこでノナン酸に213 nmのレーザー(YAGレーザーの五倍高調波)を照射したところ,光反応によって地球大気化学において重要なヒドロキシルラジカル(OH)が生成することを発見した.さらに,液体ノナン酸の光反応によるOH生成効率は,気体の脂肪酸(酢酸)の光反応によるOH生成効率と比べてわずか100分の1と低いこともわかった.この原因については,液体ノナン酸の界面ではノナン酸が「環状二量体」という特殊な構造により由来するであろうことが,和周波発生振動分光法を用いた実験によって明らかになった.
本研究で明らかにしたノナン酸の光反応によるOH生成効率は、今後の地球の気候変動を予測するうえで重要な海洋表面やエアロゾルの界面でおきている化学反応の理解を大きく進めるものである.また本研究課題の「光脱離+共鳴多光子イオン化法」を用いた星間塵表面の実験についても装置開発は順調に進んでいるので,今後継続して進める.
