Outline of Research at the Start

非常に微弱な信号も検出できる重力波レーザー干渉計を重力波検出のためだけでなく他の基礎物理学の探求にも利用する機運が高まっている。本研究では、標準模型の粒子とわずかに相互作用する非常に軽いダークマターを重力波レーザー干渉計のデータを用いて検出・制限するためのデータ解析法の定式化を行なう。その後、定式化された解析法を既存の実データに適用し、干渉計の感度領域に対応する質量域にダークマターが存在するかどうかを明らかにすることを目指す。これによって、重力波物理学とダークマターという2つの異なる分野の融合を促進させ、異分野間の相乗効果を目指す当該研究領域に貢献する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

標準模型の粒子とわずかに相互作用する非常に軽いダークマターを、LIGO重力波レーザー干渉計のデータを用いて探索し、制限した。まず、前年度に行ったデータ解析法の定式化に地球の銀河系内での公転運動に伴うダークマターの速度分布の非等方性の効果を取り入れた。その結果、有効観測量である2台の検出器間によるcross-correlation statisticが、3×(10の-13乗)電子ボルトのスカラー場の質量(70ヘルツの信号に対応)付近に対しては感度を失い、それ以外の10の-13乗から10の-11乗電子ボルト間の質量に対しては、2倍ほど感度が良くなることが分かった。その後、導いたcross-correlation statisticをLIGOのO3観測に基づくcross-correlation statisticの公開データと比較した。その結果、スカラー場の存在を示す兆候は見つからなかった。この非検出の結果から、ダークマタースカラー場と標準模型粒子との相互作用として5つの場合(グルーオンと結合、クォークと結合、電子と結合、光子と結合、重力との非最小結合)を考え、それぞれの場合において相互作用の強さの上限を導いた。最初の4つの場合については今回の制限は等価原理の検証実験による制限には及ばないことが分かった。また、最後の場合についても、今回の制限は第五の力の探索実験による制限には及ばないものの、その差は5倍以内であることが分かり、今後レーザー干渉計の感度向上に伴い、いずれ今回の方法が第五の力の実験を上回り、最も有効となることが実証できた。また、ここまでの結果を当該学術変革のシンポジウムにて発表した。
