Research Abstract

本研究はオフセンター内包イオン間の長距離相互作用が誘起するカゴ状クラスレートのTHz振動数領域での特異な物性について研究するものである.内包ゲストイオンの対称性が破れた系は、ガラス的な熱伝導を示し、熱電変換指数ZTが1を越えることが実験的に示され特に最近注目されるようになった.また極低温での熱電物質クラスレートに関するTHZ振動数領域での実験結果は結晶のものとは全く違う比熱や熱伝導性を示す.これらが構造ガラスと同じ振る舞いを示すことが重要である.本年度は10K領域で観測されるプラトー熱伝導についてオフセンターにゲストイオンを含む一般的系に対して成立する理論式を立て興味ある結果を得た.それらを要約すると、1.プラトーは対称性が破れたゲストイオンの回転モードと籠ネットワークがつくる音響フォノンとの結合状態を反映したものである.2.これによりフォノン分散関係が平坦化することで熱伝導が強く制限されることが明らかになった.3.フォノン分散関係を計算することでこれを明らかにし、音響フォノンンと回転モードとの結合定数がそのランダム性を反映しブロードになることが分かった.4.これがガラスで普遍的に観測されるボソンピークの起源であることが分かった.
これらの結果から、効率の良い熱電変換物質の設計指針を与えることができることになった.ガラスで普遍的に観測されるボソン・ピークの起源に関する研究は純粋にアカデミックなものであったが、高効率の熱電変換物質の設計に役立つことが分かったのは大きな成果である.
