中性子散乱による配列ナノ空間物質の構造解析

Research Abstract

配列ナノ空間をもつ物質において内包イオンが示す巨大振幅振動について、単結晶中性子構造解析を中心に、その詳細な描像及び物性との関連をにより明らかにすることを目指していた。しかし今年度は、震災の影響により、研究炉原子炉JRR-3及びパルス中性子源J-PARC/MLFともに停止してしまったため、国内での中性子散乱実験実施が不可能になった。そのため、海外施設を用いた中性子散乱実験及び放射光X線非弾性散乱実験へと切り替えて、研究を進めた。まず、顕著な非調和大振幅振動を示すPrOs_4Sb_<12>について、非調和振動が誘起する動的応答を探索するため、高効率中性子回折計を用いた実験を行った。その結果、温度上昇に伴い振幅が大きくなるにつれて、特定の格子点周りに散漫散乱状の散乱強度の増加を見出した。この散乱は構造因子の大きい格子点周りに観測されている事から、格子歪みとの結合が考えられ、この歪みを通じて物性に影響を及ぼしている可能性がある。この結果に基づき、非弾性X線散乱実験により、フォノンのゾーン依存性について調べた。その結果、音響フォノンとゲストモードの混成効果がゾーンにより大きく異なることを明らかにした。実験結果から、非調和性とゲスト-格子相互作用及び物性との関連を明らかにするため、定量的な解析を進めている。今回の結果から、スクッテルダイトにおける非調和振動が及ぼす影響として、ゲストモードのソフト化だけではなく、音響フォノンとの混成効果の重要性を明らかにすることが出来た。今後、調和的なPrRu4Sb12や関連化合物との比較等を進めていくことで、非調和振動の発現条件、さらには物性発現機構の解明が期待される
