幾何学的フラストレート系におけるスピン励起と格子振動の中性子非弾性散乱研究

Research Abstract

次年度である平成23年度では、平成23年3月11日に発生した東日本大震災の影響が深刻であり、中性子実験を追加することはできなかった。しかしながら、これまでに測定の完了した中性子データの数値解析やその他の手法による実験を遂行し、幸い、一定の成果を得るに至ることができた。
スピネル酸化物MgCr_2O_4、HgCr_2O_4、ZnF_2O_4において、複数の型のスピン分子励起を発見した。これらの結果から、スピン分子励起は少なくとも軌道自由度の無いパイロクロア格子上ではかなりユニバーサルに存在し、分子の型の多様性は交換相互作用やパスの微妙な差異に由来することを示唆した。
スピネル酸化物GeCo_2O_4においても、磁気秩序相と常磁性相の両方で分子型の磁気励起を発見した。Co^<2+>は非凍結の軌道角運動量を持つスピン軌道結合イオンと考えられるので、この磁気励起はスピン分子というよりもスピン軌道分子という拡張概念で理解されるべきものであろう。さらに、超音波測定により、常磁性相・磁気秩序相共に、スピン分子と格子の強いカップリングを示唆する弾性定数のソフトニングが観測された。この結果は、スピン分子がスピン軌道格子分子に拡張される可能性があることを示唆する。このような分子がオービトンやポーラロンとどのような関係にあるのか興味深い。
別のアプローチとして、モデルハミルトニアンを仮定し、エネルギー固有値と波動関数を数値的に計算することにより、中性子非弾性散乱断面積を解析することにも取り組んだ。その結果、スピン分子励起の背後に、ゼロ点振動的なスピン分子揺らぎ状態が隠れている可能性が示された。この可能性は超音波測定データの解析と一致する。
