Research Abstract

バイオロジカルモーション(生物的運動BM)とは、主要な関節を光点で置き換えた単純な動画から、人間が活き活きとした人の姿を近くすることができる、という現象である。Johanssonによる発見以来、人間はBMから対象の性別、年齢、個人を特定するのみならず、その人の感情を読み取ることができることが判明した。この問題に対して生物学的に納得のいく答えはまだ提出されていない。
本研究では、孵化直後のニワトリのヒナが、BMに対する選好性を示すという先行研究(Vallortigara et al. 2005)の結果の再現性を検討することから研究を開始した。実際、孵化直後に全くの視覚経験も与えないヒナは、我々の研究ではBM選好性を示すことがなかった。そこで、刻印付け(インプリンティング)手順を用いて光点動画の記銘を試みたところ、BM選好性が強く発現することが判明した。特にオスに置いては、刻印付け手順に手曝された刺激がBM性を持っている必要はなかった。ニワトリの形状を模した二次元射影像(ニワトリの形状を含むがBM性はない)、あるいは周期的であるが互いの二次元配置が固定された動画像、更には、互いに関連することなくランダムに動く光点であっても良い。いずれの初期経験を負荷した場合でも、その直後のテストに置いて、ヒナはBM性を持つ画像に対して選好性を示した。即ち、この選好性は刻印付けによって教示的に獲得されたものでない。BM選好性は生得的であるが、発現のためには光点動画への暴露が必要であったのである。
この結果はAnimal Cognition誌に投稿し、acceptable after revisionのコメントを得た。現在改訂稿の投稿を済ませ、エディターの決定を待っている。更に、刻印付けが甲状腺モルモンの作用亢進を経て、その後の色記銘を長期にわたり強化することを示唆する結果を得た。
