Outline of Research at the Start

FFLO状態と呼ばれる非従来型超伝導状態は、通常の超伝導がもっていた電子対流体としての対称性が量子効果によって破れた電子対液晶としてみなすことができるため、近年注目されている「量子液晶」の概念の枠組みで理解される。FFLO状態の提唱以来、様々な理論研究から理論的理解は深まっているが、FFLO状態の発現条件の厳しさや、実験難度の問題点から現実での実験的実証はあまり進んでいない。本研究では装置開発を通して、FFLO状態における量子液晶性の起源である空間変調性を超音波特性の異方性としてパルス強磁場中超音波測定から検出し、FFLO状態の実験的理解を進める。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究課題が属する新学術領域では、近年注目を集めている「量子液晶」という概念の元で量子物性を統一的に整理・理解することを目標としている。本課題では、電子対液晶状態と考えられているFulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinniko (FFLO) 状態と呼ばれる超伝導状態の量子液晶性の検証を行うことを目的としている。この検証の達成にはFFLO状態の実現、およびそのFFLO状態での空間異方性の検出が必要とされ、本課題では有機超伝導体の純良単結晶に対して強磁場超音波測定によってアプローチをする方法を提案した。本課題は「パルス強磁場中磁場角度精密制御下での有機物の超音波測定」の実現によって達成されるため、初年度は超音波の測定面での開発・環境整備を中心とし、本年度はその測定環境を用いてFFLO候補物質の超音波測定に注力した。
FFLO候補物質であるκ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu(NCS)2を中心とした測定を行い、既に2022年に報告していたFFLO状態による空間変調性が作る量子液晶性(Nature Communications 13, 5590 (2022).)の追試に加え、FFLO状態の空間変調性が不純物に弱いという理論予想の検証を行うべく、x線照射によって人工的に欠陥を加えたκ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu(NCS)2の測定を共同研究者と測定し、FFLO相の敏感な不純物応答を捉えることができた。
また、弾性特性を通した各物理パラメータを得るために他のFFLO候補物質であるκ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu[N(CN)2]Brも含めて面直磁場中でのパルス磁場中超音波測定も進め、コヒーレンス長や平均自由行程などの決定を行なった。その測定から、絶対零度でも超伝導揺らぎが存在すること等の有機超伝導の新しい知見を得ることができた。
