Outline of Research at the Start

二層ルテニウム酸化物Sr3Ru2O7は、強い量子揺らぎを持つ電子ネマティック相の代表系として、高純度なバルク単結晶を用いた研究が進められてきた。本研究では、高品質なルテニウム酸化物薄膜の作製を可能にする分子線エピタキシー法を利用して、バルク単結晶では不可能なパラメータを制御した人工ネマティック構造の実現を目指す。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

分子線エピタキシー法により、二層ルテニウム酸化物Sr3Ru2O7の高品質な単結晶薄膜の作製に成功した。さらに、基板からのエピタキシャル歪みによって、ネマティック秩序を伴うメタ磁性転移がゼロ磁場へと移動し、大きな飽和磁化を持つ強磁性基底状態が安定化する振る舞いが現れることがわかった。第一原理計算との比較の結果、基板からの巨大な引張歪みによって面直方向のRu-Ru間距離が大きく減少し、強磁性交換相互作用が増大することで、強磁性状態が現れることが明らかになった。
