Outline of Annual Research Achievements

「強い相互作用」の理解に向けて、その基礎理論である量子色力学(QCD)の数値シミュレーションは非常に強力な研究方法である。しかし、高密度状態での数値シミュレーションについては未だに確立した方法がない。そのため、QCDの高密度での性質は依然として未知のままである。本研究では、有限密度QCDで現れる諸問題の解決策を探り、高密度でも研究可能な数値シミュレーションの方法の確立を目指す研究を行った。
高密度でのQCDの計算を実行しようとすると「符号問題」という深刻な問題が現れる。その符号問題を避ける方法として、「状態密度法」という技法と組み合わせて、符号問題を級数展開の収束性の問題にすりかえる方法を提案した。その方法がより高密度でのQCDの研究を可能にするのではないかと考えている。まずその方法を、比較的計算が簡単な、すべてのクォーク質量が重い場合に適用して、状態密度法の中で中心的な役割をはたす「確率分布関数」の性質について議論した。その確率分布関数を調べることにより、クォーク質量と化学ポテンシャルの関数として、相転移が一次相転移か二次相転移かクロスオーバーかを識別し、その相転移の次数が変わる臨界面を任意の密度で具体的に決めることができた。それによって我々の方法の有用性を示した。
さらに、現実のクォーク質量近くでの計算を目指した、クォークが軽い場合も、小さな格子上のシミュレーションでテストした。符号問題を避ける方法もうまく機能して、低密度でクロスオーバーであった相転移が、高密度で一次相転移に変わる兆候を見つけることができた。そのような相転移の変化は現象論的な研究で予想されていて、高密度QCDの相構造の詳細な研究に進むための足がかりを、本研究によって与えることができたと考えている。
