Outline of Annual Research Achievements

πスタック系の電子輸送は、DNAなどの生体系や、有機伝導体やポリマーなど物性科学など様々な分野で重要な電子輸送過程である。しかし、電極間に決まった数のπ分子を制御された形で配列することが難しく、π積層系の電子輸送過程を単分子レベルで解明した研究はなく、その基礎過程は不明であった。本研究ではかご型分子を用いることでπ分子を狙った枚数、制御された形で積層出来ることに着目し、π積層超分子について単分子接合計測を適用した。単分子接合計測は、分子を含む溶液内にて、STMによりAu接合を破断することで行った。Au接合破断後に、電気伝導度が階段状に変化する様子が観測された。破断過程における伝導度を精密に計測することで、単一π積層超分子の電気伝導度を決定した。また電気伝導度計測と理論計算を組み合わせることで、単一π積層分子接合の構造を決定した。以上、πスタック系の電子輸送過程を単分子レベルで解明することに成功した。そして、従来のπ共役分子ワイヤよりも、優れた電子輸送特性を示すことも明らかにした。続いて、金属イオンを精密配列した1次元金属イオンワイヤに研究を展開した。同様の単分子計測を行うことで、金属イオンワイヤ内の電子伝導性を定量的に解明することにも成功した。
