Outline of Annual Research Achievements

昨年度の研究結果、サンゴの1種Acropora digitifera が海洋酸性化ストレスに対して高い耐性能を示すことを解明した。そこで本年度は、この耐性能のメカニズムを明らかにすることを目的に、酸性化ストレスに曝されたサンゴA. digitiferaにおける石灰化関連遺伝子の発現への影響を探った。さらに、サンゴ種間での酸性化ストレスに対する応答の差を比較するため、異なるサンゴ種(Montipora digitata)における酸性化耐性能について比較検討を行った。
その結果、サンゴの酸性化耐性能には種間によって大きく異なり、A. digitifera のように全く酸性化の影響を受けない種が存在する一方で、同じ環境に曝されたM. digitataでは、骨格形成や代謝活性が大きく低下することが明らかになった。さらに骨格形成への影響が見られなかったA. digitiferaでは、炭酸カルシウムが形成される場へのカルシウムイオン輸送に関わっている事で知られている遺伝子[Ca-ATPase]の発現量が増幅されることが明らかとなった。
本研究の成果より、海洋酸性化に対するサンゴ応答は、種間によって大きく異なることが示されたことから、将来の気候変動に伴う環境の変動は、サンゴの種多様性の低下および群集組成の変化を引き起こす可能性が予測される。さらに、サンゴ種間による酸性化耐性の違いには、カルシウムイオンの輸送に関わっている石灰化関連遺伝子の発現への影響が重要な役割を果たしている可能性が示唆された。
