Outline of Annual Research Achievements

文字に対して色と同時に素材質感も感じるという質感の共感覚者を対象として、その心理特性を研究した。色の場合と異なり、質感の刺激空間は膨大で、質感刺激を網羅的に生成することは不可能である。このため、色字共感覚の場合のように感じられる質感を正確にマッピングすることはできないが、できる限り近似するために、まず、インタビューによって主観的な質感の言語記述を収集し、それに対応する可能性のある自然画像を大量に準備して、文字の共感覚質感として最も近いものを選んでもらった。この画像セットと文字刺激を用いて質感共感覚と質感画像の類似性判断を行い、その類似性構造を詳細に調べた上で、最も近い画像を共感覚質感の近似として実験に用いた。まず、共感覚色を用いて、知覚的マッチングへの干渉を測定する課題を作成して、干渉の生起を確認したうえで、この課題を共感覚質感を用いて実施した。その結果、共感覚質感に対しても同様の干渉効果が生じること、またこの課題を非共感覚者が実施した場合とは質的に異なることを確認した。次に、色と素材質感を両方操作した事態で干渉課題を実施し、共感覚色と共感覚質感の干渉効果の関係を検討した。その結果、この課題では、共感覚色、共感覚質感両方が物理刺激と一致する場合にのみ有意な干渉が生じることが示された。この結果は、色と質感の干渉効果が線形に加算されるわけではないことを示すものである。しかし、この結果については、用いている質感共感覚の相対的精度の影響を今のところは完全に排除できず、今後より正確な質感共感覚の同定により測定精度を向上した実験が望まれる。まだ予備的段階ではあるが、本研究は、質感共感覚者において、色と質感は独立した2つの次元としてではなく、一つに結びついた心的表象として存在している可能性を示唆する。
