Research Abstract

脳内海馬は、多様性に富んだ神経細胞からなるネットワークによって神経活動が維持され、「学習・記憶」という海馬のになう基本的機能を支えている。海馬のグリア細胞は、神経細胞の機能維持や神経活動のサポートだけでなく、環境や生体情報に即してWnt3栄養因子を分泌し、未分化の成体神経幹細胞からの神経新生をコントロールする重要な機能を持っていることが我々の研究から明らかになった。さらに、うつ病などの神経疾患との関わりについて、発症初期、後期のタイミングごとに脳内より神経幹細胞を樹立培養に、発現様式の差異について解析した。その結果、発症時期ごとの疾患特異的反応遺伝子を同定し、将来の創薬医療に活かす知見を蓄積することができた。
