トンネル現象を用いた重い電子系の多重超伝導相の研究

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度は、多重超伝導相を示す物質としてUPt3とUBe13を対象とし、前者についてはs波超伝導体との間のジョセフソン効果、及び点接合分光の研究を、後者についてはジョセフソン効果の研究を行った。まず、UPt3のジョセフソン効果については、電流がc軸方向の素子について圧力下での測定を行い、前年のa軸方向の場合と同様に素子の劣化が起きないことを確認した。特に、C相が現れる大きさまで圧力をかけたところ、臨界電流の温度依存性に折れ曲がりが現れることが観察され、この現象がC相からB相への相転移を反映している場合には、最近提案されたE1uの秩序変数と矛盾しないことが分かった。一方、点接合分光については、従来報告されていたc軸方向に加え、a軸、b軸方向でもエネルギー・ギャップの存在を示唆するスペクトルが得られたが、最近の理論に依ればこの結果もE1uの秩序変数を支持している。
一方、UBe13のジョセフソン効果では、前年より大き臨界電流を示す素子を作成して測定を行ったところ、転移温度直下から現れた臨界電流が、他の物性測定で異常が観察されている温度以下で急激な増加を始めることが観察された。この結果は、異常の原因がこれまで提案されていた磁性によるものではなく、超伝導に起因するものであることを示唆していると考えられる。また、点接合分光では、最近得られた単結晶を用いた研究を行い、多結晶と超伝導転移温度が異なるにも拘わらず、前年に多結晶で見られたのとほぼ同じ温度で零バイアスでの接合抵抗が急激な減少を示すことが観察され、先に述べた異常を反映した結果であると考えられる。
