Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度は、単分子スイッチの開発に重点をおいて単分子接合の新規物性探索を行った。単分子スイッチに関する研究では、ピラジン分子を用いて実験を行った。単分子接合は極低温超高真空中おいて、Mechanically controllable break junction法を用いて白金線を破断することでナノギャップを作製し、作製したギャップに分子をトラップさせることで作製した。破断過程における電気伝導度変化からピラジン単分子接合が高伝導度、低伝導度の2つの異なる電気伝導度の状態を持つことが明らかとなった。そして、破断過程における接合の伝導度変化から、高伝導度、低伝導度の順に、単分子接合における金属電極間距離が増大していることも分かった。高伝導度、低伝導度領域において非弾性トンネル分光を適用したところ、それぞれ60 meVと30 meVのエネルギーを持つ振動モードを観測した。理論計算を組み合わせることで、高伝導度領域ではピラジン分子が結合軸方向に対して垂直に金属と結合しているのに対して、低伝導度領域では水平に結合していることが明らかとなった。続いて、機械的に電極間距離を変化させ、接合の伝導度を計測した。その結果、電極間距離を変えることで、単分子接合の伝導度を高伝導度、低伝導度と2つの間を可逆的にスイッチ出来ることが明らかになった。以上、機械的な摂動で動作する単分子スイッチの作製に今年度は成功した。
