Outline of Annual Research Achievements

共役分子の構造を制御することは,その分子の分光学的・電子的特性を制御することに他ならない.これまで,分子構造の自由度(柔らかさ)を抑えることで,物性制御を行う研究が多くなされてきた.これに対し,本研究では,分子が本来持つ柔らかさを利用して,動的に物性を制御する方法を確立することを目標としている.初年度より,モデル分子(ビナフチル)を用い,柔らかな分子の動的構造制御を行うことを目標としてきた.初年度では分子を気水界面で単分子膜として扱い,外的な力を加えることにより,分子の構造制御が可能であることを見いだした.本年度は,さらに理論計算による解析を進め,外力による分子構造変化の詳細を明らかにした.
これまでに,低次元化,すなわち,3次元から2次元に次元を落とし,制御すべき要素を単純化することによってナノマテリアルの構造・機能制御を可能としてきた.本研究でも,分子を用いる場を3次元溶液中ではなく,2次元気水界面とすることで,制御すべき項目を単純化し,外的な力によって分子マシンの構造制御が可能であることを見いだした.すなわち,二次元気水界面上でペンチに類似した形を持つ両親媒性ビナフチルの二面角を外力により制御でき,ペンチが開閉する動きを模することを見いだした.理論計算によるシミュレーションと観測結果を比較し,この分子ペンチの開き具合を表す角度は,安定構造である-90度から,圧縮により-80度まで鋭角方向に変化することが分かった.また,単分子膜の圧縮と拡張により,この分子の閉開は連続して起こすことが可能であることも確認した.本研究では,徐々にビナフチル分子に力学的エネルギーを与え,開き具合を-80度に変形するのに0.94 kcal/molを与えた.
