Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、グラフェンを中心に原子層物質の電気伝導、電子状態、光応答など量子物性を新学術領域内外の研究者と協力しながら理論的に研究し、以下の成果を得た。
グラフェン層境界における電気伝導の層数および境界の原子構造依存性を有効質量理論により調べた。単層2層グラフェン境界においては谷に依存した強い異方性、谷分極伝導が示されたが、層数の増加と共に異方性の度合いは小さくなることを示した。
また扁平したカーボンナノチューブを閉じた端のある2層グラフェンと見なしその境界条件を有効質量近似の方法により導いた。特に電子状態変化の大きい肘掛け椅子とジグザグ型ナノチューブに着目し、2層グラフェンをずらした場合の電子状態の変化を、境界での反射係数と量子化条件により再現した。特にディラック点と線形分散状態に注目し、カイラル状態を示した。これは片方の線形分散だけが境界条件を満たすためである。また、AB積層の場合にエネルギーギャップを示した。これは結合状態が境界条件を満たし伝導帯が常に0エネルギーから始まるのに対し、反結合状態は境界条件を満たさず価電子帯が下がるためである。
グラフェンに代表される層状物質の凝集力はファンデアワールス力として説明されており機械的な加圧や層間への物質挿入による変更が可能であるが、本研究では新たに光学励起による層間距離の変調を探索した。具体的には極性を持つ層状材料(ヘキサゴナル窒化ホウ素)に光学フォノンを誘起することで、各層に動的双極子を発生し、層間引力増強にいたる可能性を見出した。2次元新物質における層状距離制御の新たな方法として赤外レーザー照射を提唱し、実験的研究を提案した。
さらにグラフェンナノリボンの光物性の再検討を行った。光を入射した際の光電場のグラフェンナノリボン付近での動的変調などを主に調べた。グラフェンを用いたテラヘルツ発光素子を提案し特許を出願した。
