Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度は、トポロジカル絶縁体薄膜の表面スピン構造、及び、量子スピン磁性体の基底状態についての研究をミクロプローブであるμSR、NMRを用いて行った。
まず、トポロジカル絶縁体については、東北大との共同研究により、マイカ基板上に製膜した膜厚60nmのテトラジマイト構造Bi1.5Sb0.5TeSe2単結晶試料について、PSIのLEM施設において、μSR実験を二回(ビームタイム3日×2)に分けて行った。この研究は、トポロジカル絶縁体表面内で完全偏極しているスピン構造を明らかにするため、薄膜に平行に横磁場(TF)を印加し、TFに平行・反平行に向いたスピン流の時間反転対称性を破り、面に垂直なキャントを引き出し、これをミュオンの時間スペクトルの変化で検出しようとするものである。
ミュオンの加速電圧を1keVまで落とすことで、50%のミュオンを膜内に止めることができ、さらに100G程度のTF磁場印加に対してもリングアノードの電圧調整によってスポットを的確に試料上に持って来られる。低温5Kにおいて、TF印加(100G)した状態で、表面(加速電圧1keV)では、バルク(3keV)に対し、ナイトシフトの増大(+0.2%程度)、緩和率の増大(3倍程度)、等、いずれも顕著な変化が見出された。しかしながら、これらは結局、金属薄膜(Au)の標準試料においても同程度の変化が見られ、加速電圧の変化によるアーチファクトが大き過ぎることが明らかになった。よって、この方法で表面スピン状態を検知するには、装置の分解能がより高い、JPARCでの実験が必須であろうと考えられる。なお本件の途中経過については、リスト11(ICM2015)で報告している。
