Outline of Annual Research Achievements

グラフェンナノリボンは、“有限幅を持つグラフェン”すなわち一次元量子構造であり、分子幅やエッジ構造に依存した優れた半導体的性質を持つことが理論的に予測され、デバイス応用が期待される新物質である。しかし分子幅や化学構造を規定し、且つデバイス化につながる大量合成法が未開拓であり、その確立が世界的に望まれている。本提案では、分子設計した原料分子を、高い反応性を持つ気固界面(原料分子ー金属表面)で重合・脱水素縮環することにより、従来困難であった分子幅とエッジ構造を制御したグラフェンナノリボンの大量合成法(ラジカル重合型化学気相成長法)を世界に先駆けて開発し、単一分子素子やその組織化構造を創成し、電場・磁場スイッチング素子や確率共鳴素子等の新デバイス応用を目指した。グラフェンナノリボンを形成する前駆体分子を有機合成し、我々が開発した2ゾーン化学気相成長法を用いて金属基板上に合成し、これを表面酸化シリコン基板などへ高井スループットで再現よく転写する技術を開発した。また合成したグラフェンナノリボンを使って電界効果トランジスタを作製し、キャリア移動度を測定した結果、これまでのボトムアップ合成グラフェンナノリボンを用いるトランジスタとしては最高の値(アモルファスシリコンと同等)の大きな値を持つことがあきらかになった。
