Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2019年度も新学術領域「ハイブリッド量子科学」と密に連絡を取りつつハイブリッド量子科学に関連する国際共同研究を加速した。特に重要なアクティビティとして、2019年6月にオタワで開催したCanada-Japan Workshop on Hybrid Quantum Systemsと新学術領域最後の国際会議として松江で2019年12月に開催したInternational Symposium on Hybrid Quantum Systems 2019がある。オタワで開催した会議には、新学術領域関係者が学生を含めて15名以上参加し、北米でハイブリッド量子に関する研究を活発に行う約5人の研究者にも招待講演をして頂いた。松江の会議にはPawel Hawrylak (オタワ大)など当該分野で世界的に著名な研究者に招待講演をして頂くとともに、国際アドバイザリ委員会のBastard教授(エコールノルマル)、Kotthaus教授(ミュンヘン大学)、Westervelt教授(ハーバード大学)、Xu教授(北京大学/ルンド大学)にも参加頂き、12月5日には国際アドバイザリボードミーティングを開催した。さらに、理論分野では若手を中心にした国際交流に力を入れ、海外研究者約10人を招聘し2020年2月に国際ワークショップThe Future of Quantum Science and Technology2020を開催し、さらにソルボンヌ大学のグループとNIIで国際交流会を開催した。外国からの招聘、新学術メンバーの外国訪問を通しての国際共同研究も大変活発に行われた。なお、新学術領域で雇用しているスタッフの経費の一部を国際活動支援基金で負担することで、国際共同支援基金の活動も積極的にサポートしてもらうことができた。

Reason

2019年度は特に重要なアクティビティとして、2019年6月にオタワでCanada-Japan Workshop on Hybrid Quantum Systemsを開催し、新学術領域最後の国際会議として松江で2019年12月にInternational Symposium on Hybrid Quantum Systems 2019を開催した。カナダ側のサポートも得てオタワで開催した会議では、カナダ側の国際交流促進に向けた強い熱意もあり、国際会議のレセプションはオタワの日本大使公邸で大使やカナダ側の科学技術政策責任者も参加して開催された。松江の会議にも多くの当該分野の著名な研究者に参加して頂くことができ、我々のアクティビティのアピールと国際共同研究の推進が大いに図られた。Bastard教授(エコールノルマル)、Kotthaus教授(ミュンヘン大学)、Westervelt教授(ハーバード大学)、Xu教授(北京大学/ルンド大学)に参加頂いた国際アドバイザリ委員会では多くの有意義で将来に向けたコメントを頂いた。理論グループを中心にした若手の国際交流機会の設定も大変有効に働いた。フランス、オーストラリア、オランダ、ドイツ、インドなどからの研究者が東大平川グループ、OIST久保グループ、理研石橋グループ、NTT山口グループ、東北大平山グループなどを訪問したり、新学術メンバーがスイスやフランスのグループを中長期に訪問したりと、2019年度は大変活発な国際交流が実現された。これらの状況から「当初の計画以上に進展している。」と判断する予定であったが、2月後半以降の国際交流がCOVID-19の影響で完全に減速したため、総合的に判断して、「概ね順調に進展している。」と自己判断した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

本研究予算は2019年度が最終年度であったが、COVID-19の影響で2020年2月以降の国際交流予定がキャンセルされたため、これらの交流をCOVID-19の状況が落ち着いた後に再開するため一部予算を繰り越している。具体的にはTU. Eindhovenの学生、Julichのポスドクが理研に再び来訪して、半導体ナノワイア超伝導体ジョセフソン接合のエネルギースペクトル測定ならびにナノワイアジョセフソン接合の形成の実験を行う予定である。また、NIIを中心にした理論グループでもドイツやシンガポールの研究者を招聘して、ダイヤモンドNVセンターを用いた量子デバイス、量子系における機械学習と機械学習の量子系への拡張の国際共同研究を計画している。
本国際共同研究加速基金は新学術領域「ハイブリッド量子科学」と連携したものである。「ハイブリッド量子科学」では5年間の活動を通して、量子トランスデューサ、古典系と量子系のハイブリッド、様々な材料のハイブリッド、そして様々な量子理論のハイブリッドに向けてインパクトのある融合が電荷、スピン、核スピン、フォトン、フォノンの間で生まれており、新学術の研究交流で生まれた、これまでの領域を超えるハイブリッド化を積極的に継続する予定である。2019年12月の国際アドバイザリ委員会でも、ハイブリッド量子の研究は是非継続すべきであるとの積極的でポジティブなコメントを頂いている。COVID-19の影響でしばらくは抑制されるとしても国際共同研究、国際交流がハイブリッド量子分野の進展に不可欠であることは疑いがなく、今後この国際共同加速基金で得られた国際ネットワークを維持し、積極的に活かしていく所存である。

Causes of Carryover

次年度使用額が生じた理由:COVID-19の影響で共同研究遂行途中で海外からの招聘研究者が帰国せざるを得なくなったり、2020年2月後半以降の国際交流予定がキャンセルされたため、これらの交流をCOVID-19の状況が落ち着いた後に再開するために一部予算を繰り越す。
今後の使用計画: COVID-19の影響で研究途中で引き揚げた、TU. Eindhovenの学生、Julichのポスドクの理研での半導体ナノワイア超伝導体ジョセフソン接合のエネルギースペクトル測定ならびにナノワイアジョセフソン接合の形成の実験をCOVID-19の状況が改善した後に予定している。また、NIIを中心にした理論グループでもドイツやシンガポールの研究者を招聘して、ダイヤモンドNVセンターを用いた量子デバイス、量子系における機械学習と機械学習の量子系への拡張の国際共同研究を計画している。
