Outline of Final Research Achievements

In collaboration with the Japanese Conference of Biochemistry of Lipid, we published research data from the core laboratories in the LipoQuality consortium. We also contributed to the creation of standards in the field of lipidomics, and established international guidelines for the nomenclature of molecules and for the description
of experimental methods. We created the International Coordinator Office to foster young researchers, and provided travel support for short-term travels (from one to three months) from overseas to domestic laboratories or vice versa for technical training. During the 8-year period of our support, including the carry-over years, we held two international workshops combined with technical training courses, and supported individual travels for 17 persons from overseas to Japan and 8 persons from Japan to overseas.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

国際連携コーディネータ室が渡航支援した若手研究者はワークショップ参加者を含めると全体で40名を超えており来訪元も10か国以上と多様である。本プログラムは単なる学会参加や口頭発表のみの渡航ではなく一定期間の技術研修を支援した。若手人材の国際交流という点で通常の科研費では達成しにくい国際活動を長期にわたって実現した。新型コロナウイルス感染症のためにおよそ3年間支援が中断されたものの海外の連携拠点と合同でワークショップも開催し、国内脂質研究の成果を国外に発信でき、学術的な意義も十分に達成できた。
