| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
日本地球惑星科学連合2016年大会において領域セッション1件及び関連セッション1件を、Goldschmidt Conferenceにおいて領域セッション1件を企画し、本領域の研究成果や進捗状況を公表した。また中国武漢において地球深部の国際シンポジウムを共催し、本領域の周知を行うとともにアジアにおける高圧地球科学ネットワークの強化について討議した。これらの他、年度末には成果発表会を開催し、研究の進捗状況について点検を行った。
若手育成活動に関しては、イタリア、ラクイラにて素粒子物理学を用いた地球内部の理解とイメージングの国際サマースクールを共催した。領域代表含む2名が講師として国際教育を提供するとともに、3名の大学院生等が受講生として参加した。また群馬県草津町において本学術領域が主催して地球深部の始原物質に関するウインタースクールを開催した。海外から分野の異なる4名のトップサイエンティストを招聘し基礎から最先端の成果に至る幅広い講義を実施するとともに、ポスターセッションを開催し受講生に対する指導が行われた。受講者を国際的に広く募集した結果、5か国14の大学等から高い意欲を持つ大学院生等合計40名の参加者が選別された。国際性にも富む充実したスクールとなり、講師、受講生の双方から大変な好評を得た。これらの他、海外の研究者による国際レクチャーを計3回、国際セミナーを計5回、領域内での研究手法の共有を目的とした先端技術インターンシップを計1回開催した。
アウトリーチ等に関しては、愛媛大にて一般講演会を主催し領域代表（及び他1名）が講演を行った。また京都大で開催された記念学術講演会にて領域代表が一般普及講演を行った。ニュースレター第2号、第3号の発行の他、ウェブサイトやメールニュース（毎月1回配信）を通じて領域内連携の活発化を促進するとともに、領域外への広報活動や情報公開を幅広く行った。

Current Status of Research Progress

Reason
本領域の研究推進状況の広い周知、領域内外の研究者との連携促進を目的として、日本地球惑星科学連合及びゴールドシュミット会議において特別セッションを計画通り開催した。また国際活動支援班と連携し中国武漢において国際シンポジウムを共催して、アジアにおける地球深部科学ネットワークの充実化を行った。年度末には成果発表会を開催し、各計画研究における研究の進捗状況について点検を行い、各班とも当初計画通りかそれ以上のペースで順調に研究が進展していることが確認できた。
また先端技術インターンシップや国際レクチャー・セミナー、サマースクールやウィンタースクールを適宜実施し、各計画研究の技術的支援と若手育成イベントも計画通りに行った。特にサマースクールはイタリアにて共催、ウィンタースクールは国外から各分野のトップサイエンティストを講師に迎えて開催するなど、国際性にも大変に富んだものとなり、参加者から大変な好評を得た。
さらに領域ウェブサイトの継続的な更新、月1回のメールニュースの配信、計2回のニュースレターの発行、計2回の一般向け普及講演会の実施などアウトリーチ活動についても充実した内容となった。
その他、領域としてロレーヌ大学名誉博士号1件、日本鉱物科学会研究奨励賞1件、日本高圧力学会奨励賞1件の受賞及び日本地球惑星科学連合西田賞の内定1件があった。

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
領域全体の研究推進や領域内外の研究者の連携強化、また国際連携強化のため、日本地球惑星科学連合において特別セッションを主催するとともに、年度末には国際活動支援班と連携して成果発表会を兼ねた国際シンポジウムを主催する。これらにおいて研究活動の点検を行うとともに、計画研究からのボトムアップ評価と総括班によるトップダウン評価を行い、本領域が掲げる研究目標の実現を目指す。これら領域の全体イベントにおいて総括班会議を開催し、国内外の著名研究者からなるアドバイザリーボードに研究の進行状況と領域の運営方針について意見を求める。若手育成活動に関しては、今年度開催したウインタースクール等が大変好評だったため、次年度においても若手中心のイベントを行い引き続き次世代の研究者育成にも注力する。一方、適宜共同研究拠点等における先端技術インターンシップや国内外のトップサイエンティストによるレクチャーシリーズ等を実施する。また大型加速器施設の高圧実験装置や同位体分析装置など複数の計画研究で用いる基盤研究設備に対し、高度化 及び維持管理などの技術支援を行う。その他、ウェブサイトを通じ領域内外への広報活動、情報公開に努めるとともに、ニュースレターの発行や一般向け講演会、メディア報道を積極的に実施し本研究領域に関する広報・アウトリーチ活動を行う。
