Outline of Annual Research Achievements

総括班は、1)理論モデルを使った探査結果の解釈の推進、2)実証ツールを使った融合研究の推進、3)若手研究者の育成、4)国際探査ネットワークの構築を行う。
まず、1)、2)のため、「微惑星の水・物質循環会議」「プロキシ会議」といった個別テーマに特化した融合研究を組織し、これら会議をオンラインで開催した。「プロキシ会議」では、惑星物理学・太陽系探査学と地球化学を融合し、小惑星リュウグウの帰還試料から母天体の水環境を復元する手法を発案し、まずは既存の炭素質隕石に適応して、結果をえるなど分野融合研究を推進した。また、これに合わせて、リュウグウ帰還試料をすぐさま分析できる体制を整えることができた。
3)については、国際スクールを開催することが新型コロナの影響により困難となったが、オンラインでのミーティングを活用して個別の国際共同研究を推進した。特に、国際学術雑誌「Minerals」に本領域の特集号を組み、若手研究者や海外研究者の研究発表の掲載をサポートし、若手の発表育成の機会を多く創出するとともに、国際的なアピールを行った。
4)については、昨年度米国ツーソンでおこなった小惑星サンプルリターン国際合同会議での国際共同研究の機会を継続して維持し、個別のオンライン会合などの機会を作り出し、コロナ禍においても構築したネットワークの維持に努めた。
これらの知見・達成状況の確認、連携推進のため、領域全体会議を開催した。ホームページ運営やニューズレター発行によって、領域メンバー内外と共有することで情報伝達を進めた。

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

本領域では、令和1・2年度を第2段階とし、構築した「太陽系天体の水・物質循環を記述する理論モデル」による探査データの解釈、「ビームラインや探査データ解析による実証ツール」による太陽系天体環境の復元を目標としていた。
領域全体としてこれらの目標を順調に進めており、「理論モデル」「実証ツール」を使った融合研究を進めることができた。具体的には、微惑星の水・物質循環を扱うモデルを分野融合によって構築し、はやぶさ2探査データの解釈を行う体制を構築しただけでなく、知見を火星や氷衛星に展開し、これら天体の水環境の解読、地下海の形成・進化を探査データに基づいて明らかにする融合研究を多く推進した。また、この融合研究の主役は30代以下の若手であり、次世代の育成と融合研究を同時に推進してきた。また、ビームラインについては構築後の運用を担い、様々な融合研究の中心的役割を果たすなど、領域の基盤を支える役割を果たした。
国際活動支援については、新型コロナの影響により、活動自体を縮小あるいは一部見直しを余儀なくされたが、オンラインでのミーティングで協力関係の維持を行うことができた。
このように、第2段階(令和1・2年度)は、小惑星リュウグウで得られた知見を他天体に展開するという目標に向けてすでに顕著な成果を出すなど、順調に進展しているといえる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

第1段階で構築した理論と実証の両輪体制を用いて、第2段階で行った探査データの解釈を行ってきた。第3段階(令和3年度)では、これらを統合した水惑星の形成・進化論の構築を目指す。
具体的には、令和3年度には、微惑星・火星・氷衛星での水環境の化学進化に関する理論と実証を、拡大しつつ補完し、任意の惑星パラメタ(質量、太陽からの距離、水・岩石比など)に対して、成立する水環境とその時間進化を予想できる理論を構築する。また、これら天体に知見を基に、地球の水環境の形成・進化を広いパラメタ空間上に位置付ける。今年度は、半バーチャルでの国際シンポジウムを主催することで、本領域の知見を地球科学、惑星科学、天文学を含めた分野融合、あるいは国際的な展開を含めて多方面に波及させる。
若手育成については、令和3年度には、コロナにより延期した小惑星科学、惑星形成論をリードする海外研究者を集めた国際スクールを開催し、さらに火星・氷衛星の生命圏モデルを中心とした国際スクールも半バーチャルで開催する。また、若手・博士学生による数か月~1年の分野間インターンを推進する。
天体ごとに得られた知見を統一的視点で体系化して、水惑星の形成論、進化論を構築することで「水惑星学」を創成する。総括班は、知見をまとめた教科書を出版するとともに、次世代育成のための啓蒙活動を継続的に行っていく。
