Research Abstract

フラストレーションが生み出す新奇な物性現象の理論的・実験的研究を展開した。フラストレーション効果によって低温で安定化されると期待されるスピン液体状態は最近の固体物性研究のメイントピックの1つである。本年度はS=1/2カゴメ格子磁性体、3角格子磁性体を中心に、比熱、NMR等の実験測定を進めた。S=1/2カゴメ磁性体と期待されるボルボース石について、新たに試料の単結晶化に成功、2段階の秩序化過程を確認した。S=1/2有機三角格子反強磁性体EtMe3Sb[Pd(dmit)2]2に対して、比熱の精密測定からこの物質がモット絶縁体であるにもかかわらず温度に比例した低温比熱を示すことを見出し、NMR測定からは低温の量子スピン液体中で何らかの相転移的異常が存在することも明らかにした。フラストレート磁性体においては、低温での秩序状態がしばしばエキゾチックなものとなる。近年注目されているエキゾチックな秩序状態の1つに、スカラー・カイラリティが有限値を持ったスカーミオン励起が周期的に配列したスカーミオン格子がある。B20化合物(Fe,Co)Siにおいてスカーミオン格子の実空間像を直接観測することに成功した他、高い転移温度を持つヘリカル磁性体FeGeを用い、室温付近でスカーミオン結晶を安定化させることにも成功した。伝導性を持つフラストレート物質の輸送特性も本特定のターゲットの1つであるが、結晶構造として歪んだハニカム層を内包する重い電子系物質YbA1B4において、非フェルミ液体的挙動で特徴づけられる量子臨界点がパラメータ・チューニング無しに実現され低温では局在スピンが形成されていることを明らかにした。
