Research Abstract

生物の持つ複雑で巧妙な形態・機能の獲得には、RNA段階での遺伝子発現制御プログラムが重要な役割を果たす。すなわち、個体発生の過程において、様々な「非対称性制御プログラム」により、単一の受精卵から非対称な細胞群が生成され、「多様性獲得プログラム」により、分化過程で形成される細胞が担う多様な機能の獲得に必要な遺伝子産物自体の多様性が獲得される。さらに、「品質保証プログラム」による厳密な監視により、RNAレベルでの制御の正確性が保証される。本領域では、複雑で巧妙な生命体構築の基本原理としての遺伝子産物の「非対称性」と「多様性」の獲得機構と、それを支える「品質保証」機構の理解を目的とし、その最も重要な分子基盤である『RNAプログラム』の分子機構の解明を目指した。
