Research Abstract |
The Japanese island arc is one of the most active mobile belts on the Earth. Deep fluids liberated from the subducting plates migrate upward and they play vital roles in various subduction zone phenomena; magma genesis, earthquake mechanism, etc. In order to understand the nature and dynamics of fluids in subduction zone processes and clarify their roles, we organize a research team consisting of geophysical observation (3D tomography using both seismology and MT methods), high-pressure experiments (fluid chemistry, grain boundary textures, etc) and geofluid dynamics (numerical simulation, geochemical mapping of volcanic rocks and hot springs, etc.). We aim to provide 3D Geofluid-Map underneath Japan based on our interdisciplinary collaborating research.
