Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、核-マントル境界領域や内核の不均質構造に注目し、新規観測データを用いて地震波速度不均質などの観測精度を向上させることで、新学術研究領域「核-マントルの相互作用と共進化~統合的地球深部科学の創成~」が掲げる動的地球深部科学の創成に貢献することを目的としている。
今年度の研究成果は以下の通りである。いずれも論文として公表された。1. タイにおける広帯域地震観測の概要を報告した(田中、河合、川勝、竹内)。2. 世界中の沈み込み帯直下下部マントルにおける地震波散乱体を調査した(金嶋)。3.中央アメリカ直下マントル最下部の沈み込んだプレートの周辺に超低速度域を検出し、中央海嶺玄武岩が沈み込んでいれば溶融している可能性を指摘した(竹内)。4. 内核表面における地震波速度異方性を内核反射波PKiKPの振幅変化から初めて推定した(Helffrich)。5. 北太平洋直下における内核半球構造の境界の幅が約600kmと非常に急峻であることをを明らかにし、従来の内核不均質性の生成モデルでは十分に説明できないことを示した(川勝、竹内)。6. 400-500万年前の古地磁気絶対強度を測定した(山本)。7. 西太平洋直下マントル最下部における詳細なS波3次元速度構造を明らかにし、従来、巨大な低速度体と考えられていた領域の内部に微細な構造を見出し、熱的な不均質が卓越すること、沈み込んだプレートがマントルプルームの発生を誘発する可能性を指摘した(河合、田中)。8. 北極域の内核最上部の地震波速度構造を明らかにした。北極域のP波速度は平均よりやや小さく、アメリカやアフリカなどの西半球に見られる構造に近いことが判明した。(大滝、田中、金嶋)。
これらの結果に基づき、他の計画研究班と連携し、新学術領域の成果の取りまとめを行なった。
