Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We have developed methods for synthesis of oligosaccharides as biologically active middle molecules and analyzed their biological functions during the period of research project. Automated electrochemical assembly has been utilized to synthesize chitooligosaccharides and unnatural cyclic oligosaccharides efficiently. Biological function of these oligosaccharides is under investigation.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究で合成が効率化されたキトオリゴ糖類縁体の機能解明は学術的に重要であり、その有効利用は社会的に意義深い。すなわち、これまで未解明であったオリゴ糖の生物学的意義についても、精密合成によって高純度のオリゴ糖が供給出来れば、機能解明につながると期待される。また、オリゴ糖が医薬品や食品として有効利用出来れば、オリゴ糖をベースにした新たな製品ひいては産業の創出につながると期待される。
