Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Photosynthetic electron transport is coupled with proton translocation across the thylakoid membrane. Resulting proton concentration gradient is utilized in ATP synthesis and also downregulates electron transport. We clarified the mechanism by which plants optimize the size of delta-pH to avoid photoinhibition without decreasing the rate of photosynthesis. We also tried to artificially modify the regulatory system.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
