Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study, by structurally and functionally elucidating the relationship between the "historians’ network" and "historical reconciliation" in Japan, China, and South Korea, contributes to the collaborative research of "the creation of reconciliation studies" in terms of two aspects. First, this study clarifies the reality and activities of diverse historians’ networks with backgrounds in civil society and government, and based on the comparative study of these networks, it reveals how historians’ networks contribute to reconciliation. Second, based on the political, social, and academic situations of each country on the stage of “knowledge platform” generated by historians’ networks, it proposes the "new historiography" as a foundational field of reconciliation studies and demonstrates the path to establish the "new historiography" as an "intellectual public space" in East Asia.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究は、3つの歴史家ネットワーク、すなわち戦後歴史家、冷戦後歴史家、越境歴史家のネットワークを検証し、①留学の経験が東アジア歴史家ネットワークの促進剤になっていること。②世代を越えた歴史家ネットワークが成立していること。③対話や共同研究の成果が地域内で共有され、社会にも影響を与えていること。④史料館がハブとしての機能を果たし、それを媒体に多様なネットワークが形成されていることなどを明らかにした。併せて、歴史上の和解の試みも実証的に検証した。和解の歴史と、歴史研究のあり方、歴史家ネットワークの機能を究明したことは、新学問領域としての和解学の形成と、東アジア域内の歴史和解に貢献するものである。
