Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、太陽系天体における水・物質循環に関する実証可能な物理モデルを構築し、多様な水環境を有する太陽系天体が、いかにして作られたのかを明らかにすることを目的としている。最終年度までには、実験班により定量化された化学過程を、各天体の物理モデルに組み込み、探査・分析データを実証として、太陽系天体の水・物質循環の歴史を紐解くこと目指す。本年度は、多様な小天体の水・揮発性元素量解明を目的とし、実験班が行った水岩石反応から予想される鉱物組み合わせに対して理論スペクトル計算を行い、小天体の近赤外リモセンデータから母天体組成を制約する理論的枠組みを構築した。また、小天体上で必然的に起きる天体衝突に注目し、含水鉱物が脱水すること、塑性変形による変成が起こることなど、小天体の進化にとって極めて重要な過程を扱えるモデルの構築を行った。氷天体に関しては、メタンハイドレートが内部海を包むように存在することで、冥王星は特徴的な姿に進化したことを明らかにし、冥王星にまつわる3つの謎を同時に解明した。このことにより、宇宙にはこれまで考えられてきたよりも多くの海が存在することを示唆することとなった。火星圏に関しては、去年度に引き続き、班員は、はやぶさ2に続くミッションである火星衛星探査計画のサイエンスパートの精鋭化を行っている。また、火星古環境の復元に関する観測データとの比較や、大気大循環モデルを用いた古気候の再現などを行った。

Reason

各天体の物理モデルの構築もほぼ完了し、他班との融合研究が実際に行われ、実績が出つつあることから、「おおむね順調に進展している」といえる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

新型コロナウィルス感染拡大の状況により、外国へ渡っての共同研究等には制限が出てきているが、zoomなどを利用して頻繁に情報交換することによって、その不利点を克服し、当初の計画通りに研究を推進する。
