| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
近年の考古学的調査の進展により、古代メソポタミアに都市が誕生するはるか以前、新石器時代の段階で都市社会を先取りするような先駆的な動きがあったことが明らかになってきている。本研究ではその実態の解明を進め、西アジアにおける都市化の過程や都市自体に対する理解を深めることを目的としている。
コロナ禍の中、計画していたフィールドワークを実施できない状況が続いたが、2022年度にはその再開に漕ぎつけることができ、トルコやイラクなどにおいて発掘調査を実施することができた。特に、トルコのチャクマックテペ遺跡では、新石器時代の初頭にまで遡る大型の公共建造物を発掘することができ、石灰岩の岩盤を掘り窪めて構築された半地下式の単室の構造であること、ベンチ状の施設や丁寧に加工された石柱をともなうことなどが明らかになった。ギョベックリ・テペやカラハンテペ遺跡で検出されている公共建造物よりも時期的に古いと考えられ、南東アナトリアでも最古級の公共建造物であるとみられる。様式化していないものの石柱が伴うことや儀礼用の石製容器も出土するなど、後続する時期と共通する要素も萌芽的に認められ、公共建造物の起源を考察する上で、貴重な資料を得ることができた。また、併行して居住域の調査も行い、動植物資料をはじめとして当時の生活の様相、社会のあり方についても検討することができるようになった。
こうしたフィールドワークのほかに、これまで検討を進めてきた物資管理システムの発達、石器製作の専業化の問題、長距離交易の発達などのテーマについても研究を継続し、複雑化の度合いを深めていく新石器時代前半の社会の様相解明を進めた。コロナ禍の影響で領域全体シンポジウムの開催が延期されたこともあり、2023年度も繰越しによって研究を継続し、シンポジウムでは新石器時代における公共建造物等に関する成果について発表した。
