Research Abstract |
In order to elucidate the dynamics and mechanisms of photochromic reactions of organic molecular systems, a detection system with ultrafast time resolution <20 fs was constructed. Cyclization and cycloreversion dynamics and their relation to intramolecular low-frequency vibrations were elucidated. In addition, it was revealed that the stepwise two-photon absorption can open the effective cycloreversion channel (>2500 times compared to the one-photon process) in specific higher excited states un-accessible via one-photon absorption from the ground state. By using a near IR femtosecond laser pulse at 1.28μm with an optical microscope, one-color reversible control of the cyclization (simultaneous 3-photon absorption) and the cycloreversion (simultaneous 2-photon absorption) was attained.
