Research Abstract |
For various types of the regulated nanospace materials (clathrates), the structural phase transitions and vibrational properties of guest atoms encapsulated in the cages were investigated under extremely high pressure. We observed pressure induced phenomena which were unique to these materials and have never been discover in other covalent bonding materials. The vibrations of the guest were also clarified as a function of pressure for various clathrates. As a result, it was demonstrated that the guest vibrational frequency is determined by the cage and the quest sizes.
