Research Abstract

葉の初期原基は、茎頂メリステムを遙かにしのぐ活発な細胞増殖をおこなっている。これは、やがて先端部から基部に向けて発せられる、あるいは移動すると想定されている未知の前線、「arrest front」によって抑えられ、やがて停止すると共に、個々の細胞が分化・伸長に向かうと考えられてきた。そこで本研究では未開拓のテーマとして、(1)arrest frontによって、細胞の分裂と伸長がどのような制御を受けるのか。(2) arrest front という仮想"前線"の実体は何か(3)arrest front作用前の、葉原基における高い細胞分裂活性は何によるのか。(4) arrestfrontを境として空間的に切り分けられる細胞分裂領域と細胞伸長領域とは、互いに独立なのかの諸点を解明し、葉という器官の後期発生を、一体としてまとまりのあるものに統合するシステムの理解を実現する。
