Research Abstract |
Branching root systems enable the plants to absorb water and nutrients from the soil and to sustain the shoot parts. In this project, to understand the developmental mechanisms of root apical meristems that are essential for construction of root system, we performed molecular genetic analyses using a model plant, Arabidopsis thaliana. We found that several auxin-inducible LBD/ASL proteins regulate the establishment of asymmetry in lateral root founder cells. In addition, we found several key genes/proteins that are necessary for the formation and maintenance of lateral root meristems.
