Research Abstract

f電子化合物では、非常に強いスピン・軌道相互作用の結果、複合自由度である多極子が形成される。例えば軌道自由度は電気四極子で表され、その秩序化は四極子転移と呼ばれる。最近、さらに高次の多極子である磁気八極子や電気十六極子の自発的秩序化が存在することが明らかになってきたが、これら多極子相はまだ実例が少なく、未解明な点が多い。本研究では新たな多極子相の探索を行い、その秩序変数を明らかにする。また多極子秩序という新たな秩序状態の存在は、それに伴う量子相転移現象や多極子による近藤効果という新しい問題を提供する。これらの可能性を実験的に明らかにする。
