Research Abstract

本計画研究では、固体地球と海洋境界部の現象を支配する海底下の流れ「海底下の大河」(以下「大河」)を解明するという領域全体の目標の中で、大河の流れている場の地学的特徴(テクトニックセッティング)がいかに大河の水(流体の物理・化学特性)や河口(熱水噴出孔)の様式を支配するかを解明する。
特に「マグマ活動規制型=イオウの大河」の例である南部マリアナ熱水系と「断層規制型=水素の大河」の例である中央インド洋海嶺熱水系を主な対象として、高分解能の浅部地質構造調査と深部地殻構造調査を実施し、両者の地質・地球物理学的背景を明らかにすることを目的とする。具体的には、マグマインプットの分布、熱水循環経路、母岩の種類と変質過程を観測結果に基づいて推定し、数値実験等によりこれらの地質・地球物理学的背景が熱水の化学的性質や熱水系の特徴にどのように結びついているかを解明する。
