Outline of Annual Research Achievements

分子ナノシステムにおける創発現象をマクロへ接続し、分子素子化を実現することを目的とし、主に有機材料のナノ分子集合体およびその界面において発現する新規な物理・化学現象を見出し、制御制御技術を追求した。
有機素子のサイズを小さくしていくことで、粒界を含まない分子結晶本来の特性が現れ、また高電界下における特殊なキャリア移動機構や低次元物性等、さまざまな新たな知見を明らかにすることが出来た。特に二次元高分子膜において観察された伝導特性はクーロンブロッケイド(CB)効果によるものと同定した。有機導体内のCB効果を示唆した報告はこれまでにほとんどなく、我々の結果は有機導体内の電荷移動に電荷反発項が大きく影響していることを示す結果となった。
またナノ分子集合体において、その個々の機能のみには収まらない新たな機能を創発する取組として、カーボンナノチューブ(CNT)を用いた2端子多経路確率共鳴素子の開発を進めた。一対の対抗電極間にCNTを多数本架橋し、電極とCNT間に酸化還元作用によって電気伝導性の大きく異なることが期待できる有機分子を挿入することで、確率共鳴効果の増大が期待される。作製した素子の多経路効果を見積もったところ、ほぼ10本程度の多経路が形成されていた。多経路効果が期待より少なかったのは、素子の作成技術がまだ発展途上である為であり、この点が解決されれば飛躍的な改善が期待出来る。この素子構造は特許申請中である。
また、STMを用いた単分子機能計測実験では、分子構造のキラリティから発現した偏光発光計測を観測した。絶縁体薄膜上に吸着した単一分子および二量体をSTMによって観察し、STM探針から注入されたトンネル電子によって発生する偏光光を同時に観察したところ、キラリティの異なる分子からは異なる偏光光が発生していることを確認し、世界初の単一分子のキラリティを見分けることに成功した。
