Research Abstract

動物の行動が遺伝子産物の機能変化に依存してどう変化するかを理解するためには、神経系の動作の基本原理の根底からの理解が必要である。哺乳類を中心に、既知分子については多くの知見が蓄積されたが、新規の機能分子、特に学習などの制御機構に関わる未知の分子を発見することは容易ではない。研究代表者らは線虫C.エレガンスの遺伝学を用い、化学走性の学習に関わるいくつかの分子経路の同定に成功している。この基盤のもと、本研究では神経科学における重要問題のうち、以下の4点に焦点を絞った問題認識と目標を設定し、これを達成する。
(1)連合学習の機構、特に、学習の成立機構、学習に依存した行動のスイッチ機構、記憶の持続時間を決定する機構、学習能力を制限する機構の解明
(2)走性行動の機構、特に単一の感覚入力から複数の情報を抽出する機構の解明
(3)個体間の行動の差異の分子的基盤と自発的神経活動の意義の解明
(4)多様な走性行動に関わる全神経回路の動作機構の解明
