Research Abstract

In this study we aimed at understanding the mechanisms of chemotaxis and associative learning in the nematode C. elegans. By quantification of behavior, two mechanisms of chemotaxis were found. On the other hand, mutant isolation revealed that insulin/PI 3-kinase pathway and Gq/phospholipase C/diacylglycerol pathways are important for associative learning of salt concentration and availability of food. Further, changes in the neural circuits that generate the behavioral plasticity was identified.
