| Research Abstract |
本研究では、近年社会的に問題とされる「顔認識」の社会的側面と、社会的注意(社会的場面で、うまく視線が合わないなどといった問題)の側面を、その発達過程から実験的に検討することを目的としている。本年度は、社会的側面のひとつである、乳児の顔認識能力について検討した。特に乳児の脳活動をNIRS(Near-Infrared Spectroscopy:近赤外分光法)を用いて計測し、(1)乳児が表情を認識すること、(2)母親と他者の顔を区別すること、(3)顔の動きだけから顔を認識することなどを報告した。これらの成果は、NeuroImageやEarly Human Development, Neuroscience Lettersなどの学術雑誌に掲載され、海外では視知覚研究で最も多くの研究者が集まり権威のあるVision Science Society (VSS)、国内では、日本心理学会など、いくつかの学会で発表された。さらに、NIRS計測によって乳児が表情を認知することを世界で初めて報告した成果は欧米雑誌の中で評価の高いNeuroImage誌に掲載された。論文掲載に伴い、2010年11月5日に中央大学後楽園キャンパス内においてプレス会見を行ない、Yahooニュースや毎日新聞・日経新聞など多くの新聞に掲載された。さらに2010年12月16日には、NIRS計測によって、乳児が母親と他者の顔に対して異なる反応をすることを報告した成果について共同研究を行っている生理学研究所においてプレス会見を行い、Yahooニュースや毎日新聞・読売新聞・日経産業新聞に掲載され、日経サイエンスでも紹介され、広く関心を集めた。
また、行動実験からは、目や口を黒点で表しただけの幾何学的な図形を用い、顔図形に対しても乳児の顔選好が見られるかを検討した。その結果低月齢児では、どのような動きであっても目口の動きによって顔選好が促進されたことから、乳児による顔の知覚および学習に運動情報が貢献していることが示された。この成果は、包括型脳科学研究推進支援ネットワーク夏のワークショップで発表され、2010年度若手優秀発表賞を受賞した。
